A reminder of key services the GMB provides for its members.

Here’s a helpful reminder about one of the key services that the GMB union provides for its members.

If in the past 3 years you have suffered an accident at work, an injury or have received a diagnosis or become aware of an illness or condition that could have been caused by your employer, then the Union can potentially provide free legal assistance in pursuing a personal injury claim for you.

This also applies to any such injuries or illnesses suffered by your immediate family, and also any injuries and illnesses suffered outside of work that were someone else’s fault. For example, if you were involved in a road traffic collision that wasn’t you fault and suffered an injury as a result, or if your child was injured as a result of being a passenger in a road traffic collision.

If you have suffered from anything mentioned above in the past 3 years, then please do not hesitate to contact the Union and take advantage of this service by filling in the form at the following link: Personal Injury Claim Form

If you are not able to fill out the form or require further assistance in doing so, please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to assist with this.

Furthermore, if you are unsure as to whether or not your issue warrants bringing a claim, then please get in touch anyway and we can assist with this too. You can submit any workplace enquiry via the London region website too. Please use this link for these enquiries.

If you are concerned about the financial impact that such a claim could have on your employer, then please do not worry about this as all Employers are required by law to have insurance which would cover the costs of any such claims.

In January 2024 alone, 17 members achieved a settlement for their Personal Injury claims and over £67,000 paid out in settlement sums.

For the period of 1st July 2023 to 31st December 2023, 135 cases were settled and a grand total of £1,159,595.69 was recovered for our members, resulting in an average payout per member of just over £8,500.

Furthermore, if you wish to seek independent legal advice outside of the Union, this could likely cost you up to 25% of any sums recovered (on a no win no fee basis), along with having to pay out £100s or perhaps £1,000s in disbursements such as court fees and barristers costs, depending on the complexity of the case. As a result of using the Union for this service, you will not have to pay these costs.

Please let us know how we can help if you are unfortunately affected by the above.
