Consultation underway on the School Support Staff Negotiating Body

Dear colleagues,

Consultation is now underway on the School Support Staff Negotiating Body. GMB has campaigned for the re-establishment of the SSSNB and it provides a good opportunity to improve the terms & conditions, career pathways and training of our members.

Please would you share the information below to encourage maximum participation in the consultation to ensure the SSSNB truly meets the needs and expectations of our members in schools.

Today we have launched a public consultation to inform the structure of the School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB).

The Government intends to give greater recognition to the value and professionalism of the whole school workforce through establishing the School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB), an important part of delivering its Plan to Make Work Pay and Opportunity Mission.

The SSSNB will have a remit for pay, terms and conditions, training, and career progression for support staff in all state-funded schools in England.

We are consulting on:

  • The definition of ‘school support staff’ for the SSSNB.
  • Whether to include agency workers in scope in future.
  • We are also gathering evidence on current pay and conditions arrangements for school support staff.

The consultation will close on July 18th; we encourage all stakeholders to share this consultation link with their networks. We are keen to gather feedback from employers and employees to help shape the structure of the SSSNB. We will host a Q&A session to provide further clarity on the content of the consultation and answer any questions your members may have.

We appreciate your time and look forward to working together.

Thank you,
School Support Staff Team
